Secret Cabal Episode 41 Released

TheSecretCabalPodcast

The Secret Cabal Gaming Podcast released episode 41.

In episode 41 we hop on our webcams to play remote games of Village with the honorary Founder Rodney Smith. We do our best to work our family members to death to ensure they’re noted in the Chronicle in preparation for bringing you a walk-through and review of the 2012 Kennerspiel des Jahres. Tony is busy moving to California but Chris steps up to the plate to cover all the gaming goodness of the past few weeks. Then we host a discussion on our recent remote gaming experiences and hold the Secret Cabal Potpourri, where we ask each other a myriad of gaming questions that must be answered!

POWER TO THE MEEPLE!

power to the meeple

John Michael Gariepy and Jeffrey Norman Borbeau have created a new podcast show entitled “Power to the Meeple”. Here are the details from Gariepy’s website:

We hold this truth to be self-evident:  Not all games are created equal!

Power to the Meeple is Jeffrey Norman Borbeau and my latest podcast foray.  We’re advocates for the little meeple.  Each episode is a strike at the heart of bourgeoisie gaming, and a vote for the proletariat.  Down with Big Brother!  Up with Meeple!

Each episode is filled with game reviews and… um… something approximating news.  I find it to be both educational and hilarious.  You can listen to our first episode, either by subscribing via iTunes (soon), or stream via Soundcloud,  Or perhaps you’d like to peruse our new website, PowertotheMeeple.com, your home for information on the revolution.  Since I’m behind the curve (and Jeff is, evidently, some sort of editing monster), you can instead jump straight to our DC versus Marvel Deckbuilding extravaganza episode number two, if you wish.

Since the revolution will not be televised, we need your help.  Don’t forget to like and share liberally with your fellow citizens.  Be vigilant, and stay tuned to our channel for further podcasts.  Be good to one another.  That is all.

Tabletop Season Two Announced

wil wheaton

Wil Wheaton announced the return of Tabletop, his Podcast series of episodes where he invites guests to play a variety of different board games.  Season two is set to debut April 4th.

Finally! I can announce that Season Two of Tabletop will premiere on April fourth! I’ve wanted to talk about this for months, but I couldn’t, because of reasons.

But now we can talk about it, so…

We have some amazing guests this season, including Jeri Ryan, Seth Green, Bobak Ferdosi, Ashley Clements, Patrick Rothfuss, and my son, Ryan Wheaton.

We have some amazing games this season, including Smash Up, Star Trek Catan, Shadows Over Camelot, Lords of Waterdeep, and The Resistance!

Back in January, I wrote a post called Thinking About Tabletop. It turns out that everything I want to say today, I already said then. So, take it away, me from a few months ago:

About a year ago, I finished shooting the first season of my show Tabletop, and had a few weeks off before we began editing the games we played into hopefully entertaining television.

I don’t remember what I did during those weeks — probably slept a whole lot — but when we got into editing, I clearly remember how terrified I was that the show wouldn’t work. The first cut of the first episode was (following my direction) too long, tough to follow, and just not as interesting as I wanted it to be. Luckily, Felicia Day was in the edit bay with me, and she knew exactly how to fix it. She gave notes and advice to the editor (who was amazing), and when we came back two days later to watch the second cut, it was an entirely different show. It was funny, it was entertaining, it captured how much fun it was to play the game. It was what I had always hoped Tabletop would be.

Later we tackle the civilization building game “Clash of Cultures” from Z-Man Games.  Does this 4-X game bring anything new to the genre? And does it have enough elephants?
And don’t miss Total Fan Girl this episode as Nicole chats with some of the folks behind Pandemic.
